The Truth series came out of listening to things my subjects were saying as they posed for me. I started to think about them later and put a few of the statements on the collage. I decided that the best way to engage the viewer would be to compel them to have to judge whether a statement on the piece was true or not.
In some cases there is a randomness, in others there is a specific cadence and way of speaking that I have recreated in each of the statements.
The following statement was put in the 24 Works on Paper catalog (IAO Gallery, Oklahoma City, July 2009). These are the questions I hope the pieces engender in the viewer and among the viewers interacting with each other.
Which is true among these statements? Why do you think that? What information have I given you or left out that affects your choice? What difference would it make if any of these statements were true or false? What does your choice say about you and how you interpret what you see? How do you go about judging her? Is that good or is that bad? Where would this go in your house?
